Joseph Mirci passed away February 20, 2019, in Centerville, Utah.
Joe was born April 30, 1926, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Filippo (Philip) Mirci who came to the US from Sicily, and Anna Faraone whose parents also came from Sicily. Dad was proud of his Italian heritage.
Dad grew up in Caliente, Nevada, with his mother, father, and grandfather who really loved him. He joined the US Navy toward the end of World War II, and spent his service in the South Pacific. He has always remembered those Navy days.
Joe graduated from the University of Utah and spent the majority of his working life in California, starting as a teacher and then a principal for elementary schools in Banning and Livermore, California. He was very involved with the community, students and their parents. He was a teacher, coach, principal, and mentor to many. Dad was still in contact with many students, and at a students’ class reunion recently, he was given a standing ovation. After retirement, he moved back to Nevada and resided in Mesquite for many years. Dad enjoyed his friends in the “Pinochle Group” there and rarely missed an opportunity play cards.
He was a loving and devoted son. He was married three times and divorced three times – he survived marriage!
We as a family want to thank those who gave extra loving care to Dad in his final days – grandchildren Ryan and Kaede Patin, Amber Strength, as well as other family members and the hospice group.
Joe is survived by his children Joe (Bonnie), Jay (Trudy), and Jolene (Mike Beazer) Randall, as well as 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
